Wigan Warriors second row Joel Tomkins signs contract extension
Wigan Warriors second row Joel Tomkins has signed a contract extension with the club that will see him continue until at least the end of the 2011 season.
The 21-year-old emerged as a genuine first-team player during the 2008 season, making 17 starts in 28 total appearances and scoring 12 tries - including a four-score haul against Hull FC in August.
Tomkins was also named as Wigan's young player of the year for 2008, and said he is "delighted" to have signed a deal for the next three seasons.
"As a local lad it was always my ambition to play for Wigan and I enjoy every minute of playing for the club," he said.
"It is still sometimes hard to believe what has happened when I look back."
Club chairman Ian Lenagan added: "We are pleased that Joel has agreed a contract for the next three seasons.
"He had a tremendous 2008 and was awarded with our young player of the year award back in September.
"He is an outstanding talent who has come through the club's ranks to really establish himself in the first-team squad.
"He has a great attitude and will continue to flourish around some of our more experienced players."
