Escaped prisoner Andrew Farndon has been arrested, after absconding a prison hospital escort with an armed accomplice on Wednesday (January 25th).

The 26-year-old, who was serving an indeterminate sentence for public protection (IPP) following his 2007 conviction for grievous bodily harm, triggered a national manhunt after the daring escape at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmonds.

Today, Suffolk Police confirmed that Farndon had been located and taken back into custody last night (January 27th) in an undisclosed area.

A spokesman said: "In relation to the investigation into the escape of Andrew Farndon from Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday evening, Suffolk Constabulary can confirm that Farndon has been detained by police and is in custody in another force area."

It is thought that Farndon stabbed himself while in detention on Wednesday evening, before a gunman threatened the prison officials escorting him for treatment.

Farndon's mother, Kate Farndon, appeared on Sky News, asking her son to hand himself in, adding: "This just isn't going to help anything."

At his 2007 trial, Farndon escaped by jumping from the dock and was sentenced to an IPP, with a minimum of two years before parole, in his absence.
